Awards: The Grady McKnight Awards

This financial award given to single or working poor mothers who have acknowledged financial hardship and the need for monies for one of the following categories each calendar year:

(Working Poor qualification would vary based on debt to income ratio)

Back to School Collegiate Award
Awards of up to $5000 are available for a single working mother who desires to pursue a college education, specialized educational program, or trade school. The applicant must be accepted by the program for which she is applying. The awardees may re-apply for the award, if in good standing in their current educational program. The applicant would submit an essay of no more than 500 words detailing their purpose for pursing this education and their envisioned future. The essays will be reviewed by a WIP committee. (If the applicant wishes to re-apply, she would need to be good academic standing).

Open Application Period: April 1st - August 15th (may vary)

Entrepreneurial Award
Awards of up to $2500 are available for a working "poor" mother who is in the start up phase of her business. The business must be in existence for less than 3 years to apply. The candidate must submit a business plan to Women Identity Purpose in order to apply for this award. Completion of a business certification program at a university, small business center or applicable institute of higher learning could enhance a newly formed business’s chances of obtaining the award. The business plan will be reviewed by a WIP committee and selected based on the applicant’s need, commitment level, and likelihood of business success.

Bridge the Gap Awards
This award will be given to support efforts to bridge the gap of financial need for the mother on a case by case basis. The award will go toward efforts which will economically position the mother for future success. Applicants would submit a one page write up detailing their need and proposed outcome after receiving our award. The award will be up to $2500 for each recipient. This award will not be for higher education. The monies for this award would be distributed, as needed, to the appropriate vendor, organization, or business which would be providing the service or product to the recipient.
